Recognition of the Fiftieth Class Dinner

Thirty members of the Class of 1959 contributed to their class gift. Chair of the Steering Committee Don Steelberg made the following statement regarding the class gift: “It is our privilege to offer this gift from the Class of 1959 to the Seminary’s benevolence. The gift is in appreciation for the ministry to us of President John Alexander Mackay, who retired the year we graduated. His distinguished presence was not only that of a foremost church leader who had confronted the narrowness of America’s political vision, but had won the right to speak because of his ecumenical work and his concern for Hispanic and Portuguese people whom he had served much of his life. The fund is dedicated to provisions for strengthening the field education of students for ministry—particularly to Hispanics and Portuguese---certainly a growing part of the American Church. The Steering Committee thanks the class members for their gifts.”
