The 9th Annual Engle Institute
Princeton Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the ninth annual Joe R. Engle Institute of Preaching, scheduled for July 24-29, 2011. Please click here to move straight to the registration information.
This year the Engle Institute welcomes M.Div. graduates who have been preaching between two and eight years. Up to fifty Engle Fellows (participants) will gather on Princeton Seminary’s campus for this year’s institute. Application is open to people who are currently serving a congregation or in some other ministry context, who have some regular responsibility for preaching and worship, or who intend to seek such a call.
About the Engle Institue
The Engle Institute is a weeklong continuing education event that was envisioned and made possible by the dream and generosity of Joe R. Engle, a member of the First Presbyterian Church in New York City. The institute is designed to nurture and strengthen the craft of those who preach, whether weekly or occasionally, whether in city, suburb, small town, rural community, or other specialized ministries. Engle Fellows and faculty gather for the week to participate together in the hospitality of the seminar room, the dinner table, and the chapel pew. Engle Fellows reconnect vocationally with friends as they practice the craft of preaching in the company of colleagues.
Leadership, Workshops and Practicums
The Engle Institute offers a unique, interactive approach to preaching renewal. Rather than highlight a slate of national pulpit "stars," the Engle Institute is designed to encourage and nurture pastors who preach regularly in local contexts. Through hands-on workshops, seminars, tutorials, and conversations, Engle Fellows are supported and challenged to seek excellence in their preaching vocations.
Engle Fellows participate in daily seminars and workshops, some of which are in lecture/seminar format while others are preaching practicums. Early in the spring we will announce this year’s workshop options. Admitted fellows will be able to make their requests for workshop choices at that time.
In keeping with its ministerial focus, the Engle Institute invites a pastor to serve as the preacher for the week. This year we are pleased to welcome the Rev. Amy Miracle, pastor and head of staff of the Broad Street Presbyterian Church of Columbus, OH, as the preacher/pastor-in-residence. Serving three different churches through her more than twenty years of ordained ministry, more information about Rev. Miracle is available here.
