On the Cover

Art Director Kathy Whalen has used U.S. campaign buttons and flags of Mexico, Kenya, Germany, South Korea, and the United Nations to convey the truth that for many Christians the flag of patriotism flown during election season is marked, and sometimes torn, by their confession of faith in Jesus Christ. Whether running for office, voting, or reciting the great confessions of the Reformed faith in worship, these believers understand that faith propels us from the church into the world.

Faith and Politics: Two PTS Alums Make Bids for U.S. Congress, Fall Short

DeForest Buster Soaries and Doug Forrester are the latest PTS grads to seek to live out their Christian calling by running for political office. Both ran for U.S. Congress from New Jersey this fall. Their campaigns raised the larger questions about what happens when faith and politics mix.

Giving Words to the Story

G. Robert Jacks, a longtime professor of speech communication at Princeton Seminary, died suddenly on June 5, 2002. In this tribute, one of his faculty colleagues and several of his former students honor his career and his ministry and remember both what he meant to them and what he taught them.
by Barbara A. Chaapel, Charles L. Bartow, Margot Starbuck Hausmann, Jack R. Van Ens, and Donald M. Mackenzie Jr.

A Living Confession: The Presbyterian Church and the Anniversary of the Confession of 1967

Every church must respond to the demands of its place and time, and confessions are one of the ways churches have done so. The Confession of 1967 and the Book of Confessions are part of the living witness to today's church.
